Blossom Beach, Bremer Bay

If you are planning to holiday within Western Australia this holiday season, I encourage you to explore the south coast from Albany to Esperance.  Bremer Bay adjacent to the beautiful Fitzgerald National Park, is a popular destination . From the continuous small waves of magnificent Blossom Beach (great for boogie boarding) to the delightful tranquility of Little Boat Habour (where the leafy sea dragon hangs out) it is a fascinating area.
The estuary is home to a delightful colony of pelicans who line the jetty each morning just chilling out and resting. A nature trail amongst the paper bark trees which line the estuary from the beach to the town site is a pleasant walk and one should not miss the stunning views from the wind turbine platform sited above the township.
If you are heading south from Perth, the journey down to Bremer Bay calls for a lunch stop at the delightful Henry Jones Winery & Cafe at Broomehill. This beautiful restored 1911 building used to house the general store, butcher and baker. The large wooden counters are still in place and now display tempting cakes alongside the wine bar. A delicious crab and cauliflower soup was on the menu when we visited. Even though we were not in soup season, it was hard to resist. It proved to be a good choice with great crab flavour.  Followed up by a shared plowman's platter and a generous tasting of the local white, we were reluctant to leave this delightful wheat belt town.
The small country towns we passed through on our way south are working hard at attracting tourists to this often forgotten area. Give some thought to spending some time on the south coast. You won't be disappointed.
